The Epic Read-A-Thon is a 24-hour, nonstop, out-loud reading on February 25-26, 2017. The read-a-thon benefits the Woodlawn Writers Corps, our in-school program that delivers weekly poetry workshops to more than 500 students in Woodlawn-area schools.

How to sign up

It's easy to participate: 1) If you haven't already, sign up as a reader/fundraiser at 2) Check out the schedule below and figure out when you'd like to read. 3) Click on your desired schedule block to find a 10-minute reading shift.

Epic Read-A-Thon schedule

9:00-10:00 a.m.  Readers choice of picture books (read one of these books or bring your own)

10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — James and the Giant Peach, by Roald Dahl 

12:30-2:00 p.m. — Inside Out & Back Again, by Thanhha Lai

2:00-4:30 p.m. — A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L'Engle

4:30-7:00 p.m. — Readers choice of myths, legends, fables, folk tales, swashbucklers, picaresques, excerpts from epic poetry and fiction, and classic and postmodern adventure stories (read from one of these or bring your own)

7:00-8:00 p.m. — Ugly Baby performs epic-themed improv

8:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m — Omeros, by Derek Walcott

1:00-2:00 a.m. — Song of Myself, by Walt Whitman

2:00-4:00 a.m. — The Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on a Latin American Journey, by Ernesto Che Guevara

4:00-9:00 a.m. — A Wizard of Earthsea, by Ursula Le Guin
