Voyages in Visual Art | January/February 2017

January 24th - February 28th

DISCO is gearing up for our Epic Journeys Read-A-Thon. On Tuesday afternoons in January and February, we will be creating our own worlds to journey into by combining creative writing and visual art. Professional artists will lead students in tutorials and talks on a variety of different mediums including origami, 3-D modeling, book making, and painting. As well as giving insight to the many different careers an artist can have.

Students are highly encouraged, though not required, to attend each week. All workshops begin at 4 p.m. and end promptly at 5:30 p.m.

Workshops are free to kids in the Birmingham area, but registration is required. Students may register to drop in for one workshop or attend all sessions. The grade levels listed above are meant as a guideline for parents to determine whether or not a workshop is suitable for their children. Students need to be able to read and write independently to attend DISCO workshops. Students are not permitted to use cellphones during workshops. DISCO follows the Birmingham City School Calendar and Closings.

DISCO requires a Student Assessment packet for each registered student. This packet will be emailed to you once you register your child for his/her first DISCO workshop this semester. The information in the packet helps us in grant reporting, which allows us to continue providing high-quality, free programming. By checking the box below, you acknowledge that this Student Assessment packet, plus a recent report card or progress report, will be due at the first workshop session your child attends this semester. Students may not attend workshops at DISCO until the Student Assessment package has been signed.
